The Outing Club Indoor Center - "OCIC"

On March 3, 2008, The Outing Club began a lease agreement (lease agreement Press Release) with the KRSD to pay an hourly rent to use certain facilities at the former KRMS in New London. We call this facility the "OCIC" to distinguish it from our other facilities at Woodward Park and Knights Hill Park.

We now offer year-round, indoor programs and activities using leased spaces, including the Gym, a large Activity Room and the stage area, as well as the playing fields behind the vacated school.

During the school day, the facility is used by the KRES, New London.  The Outing Club's programs will be conducted during weekday non-school hours 3:30-10:00pm, and weekends and school vacation days 8:00am - 10:00pm, according to our seasonal schedule.

This agreement is a large plus for both parties, as well as the KRES-NL, and our community:

  • The KRSD will continue ownership and general maintenance of the property and the OC will pay a pro rata monthly fee for the hourly use of the designated facilities.
  • The KRES-NL has, for the first time, their own gym, outside playing area, and other facilities in the old middle school for their Springfield, New London and Wilmot students.
  • The OC has an indoor facility to expand existing and offer new indoor programs for broader participation, and additional playing field areas to expand outdoor programs.

In 2007, The New London Outing Club completed, at it's own expense, the following work to address long standing issues:

Water Drainage Problem

  • Excavated, cleared, replaced old clogged drains and drain pipes, and added an additional drain, all set in crushed stone and covered with landscape fabric along the gym’s exterior from the front entrance, along the driveway, and across the rear of the building.
  • Re-graded the driveway to take water away from the building and re-applied new asphalt

Gym Floor

  • Removed the old gym floor down to the concrete slab.
  • Installed a vapor barrier over the concrete slab, followed by foam insulation, another vapor barrier and a floating wood support system.
  • Installed a humidity control system under the gym flooring.
  • Installed a new hardwood (maple) floor
  • Added new lines for a full-sized basketball court, two side basketball courts, a volleyball court and two badminton courts.
  • Installed volleyball and badminton net systems with floor sleeved standards.

Playing Field/Baseball Diamond

  • Mowed, fertilized, and weeded grass playing field.
  • Replaced fencing along parking area.
  • Cleared accumulated material blocking the existing drain behind the garages.
  • Cleared overgrown brush and trees from area along right field fence to stone wall property line, and to the ball field backstop.
  • Installed drain line in crushed stone and landscape fabric along entire length, fertilized and seeded area.
  • Measured infield to proper dimensions, weeded, cut sod as needed and added new 60 tons of new clay.

Small Practice Field (behind backstop)

  • Mowed and cleared overgrown trees and brush from field and removed rotted building
  • Moved loam from high to low areas
  • Excavated and ran drainage pipes along length and width of field
  • Re-graded, fertilized and seeded entire field
  • Restored unused field (35 yds  X 75 yds).

In order to accomplish the above work in a timely manner (during the 2007 summer vacation and before Winter), the OC secured a $200,000 line of credit from a local bank to pay for the work.

A fundraising campaign to raise money to pay off the loan amount resulting from this work was successfully conducted in 2007.

Our thanks to all of our many contributors.
