2008 Fall Fling Auction & Dance a Huge Success

The Outing Club’s biennial fundraising event, the Fall Fling, raised over $29,000 in support of our non-profit organization which has been providing sports, recreational, educational and social programs and activities to residents of, and visitors to the greater Kearsarge area since 1947.

This year’s event was held at the spacious Colby Sawyer College Ware Center, and accommodated a record number of Outing Club supporters, all of which enjoyed the evening’s festivities.  The event opened with an array of delicious hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar as attendees  bid in a silent auction on many various items donated by local merchants and individuals.

Next, a live auction was held by auctioneer, Gary Robinson, where additional donated items went to the highest bidder after much fun and lively action.   Highlights of the live auction included a $1000 gift certificate to the Woodstock Inn donated by Dick and Leigh Clayton, a membership initiation fee to the Lake Sunapee Country Club from Doug Homan, dinner at NYC’s Tavern On The Green by Bridgit Le Roy, appetizers for 10 persons by Bubba’s  Catering, a year’s worth of shirts laundered at New London Cleaners, a set of skis from Outspokin’, art work by Annie Ballin, Grace Cooper and Wendell Phillips, lake cruises and a fishing trip by New London Agency, John Wilson and Don Anderson, a case of fine wines by John and Sarah O’Conner, Thule car rack container by Village Sports, a handmade table by Jon Poston, ski parkas from King Ridge Ski by John MacKenna, and services from RP Johnsons and Hutchens Design, and a ski pass to Ragged Mountain by Bob Fries. Throughout the live auction, door prize and 50/50 raffle winners were announced.

The final event was the raffle drawing for a large original oil painting by Townsend Howe.  The Howe family donated the painting which depicted a view from Townsend Howe’s front garden across to the Wilmot town hall and library area.  Only 100 tickets were sold for this raffle which was coordinated by Craig Howe.  The painting was won by William Pike.

Following the auctions, Nick’s Other Band fired up the amps, the dance floor was rolled out and all enjoyed the great rock ‘n roll music and dancing into the evening.

The Outing Club expresses a heartfelt thank you to all those who made the 2008 Fall Fling a tremendous success!  Outing Club board member, Jody Arnold assembled a great team of volunteers to coordinate and run the event, including Jim, Hannah, Tim and  Andrew Arnold, Kathi , Dave and Ken Seastrand, Dianne Chadwick, Susan Phipps, Kim Giles, Kathy Noordsij, Nina McDonough, Amanda Lauster, Marissa Zeller, Marie Rossachacj, Charlene Baxter, Dennis Horton, Alex Craigie, Andrew Brown, and Cindy Daley

Auctioneer, Gary Robinson, works his magic as he offers and cajols bidders during the live auction.

A record number of Outing Club supporters attended the Fall Fling Auction & Dance to bid on many donated items to raise money for the non-profit organization.  Over $29,000 was raised by the auction for the Outing Club.  This event, begun in 1998, is held every other year and the money raised allows the Outing Club to replenish its operating account which gets drawn down annually by administrative and maintenance costs of operating its facilities and activities for the community.

Thank you for your wonderful support of The Outing Club!
